VG Gets a Makeover

We’ve been through a lot of variations on our website since I first started dyeing yarn nearly eight years ago. There was the Etsy shop, then the site that looked like it used a template intended for selling electronics and was constantly crashing.  Finally, some four years ago, we got the site we’ve had until recently, which I loved very much when we first got it. It was the first time I’d had real design control over our site, which was super exciting, and I gleefully filled it up with Celtic knotwork and parchment paper and all manner of curlyques. But the world of technology is a fast moving, ever-changing beast, and the day came when we looked up to find that the motor car had been invented and we were still driving a horse and buggy. The time had come for a site that would streamline everything from user navigation to backend administration, while preserving the beauty of our handcrafted fiber arts and highlighting the depth of our colors.

So it is, my friends, that I am thrilled to present to you the latest incarnation of the Verdant Gryphon website. I hope that you will love it as much as we do. Please understand also that since it’s newly unveiled, there may well still be bugs lurking which we haven’t yet spotted. We’d greatly appreciate your patience through the early stages.

Here are some of the features we’re most excited about that you won’t want to miss!

On the Homepage:

  • Keep up with the latest live VG updates from Instagram & Twitter! Join in the  fun by tagging Instagram pictures with #verdantgryphon.

As You Shop:

  • The shopping cart shows images of your selections, which makes it a great place to look at color combinations.
  • Shop by color! Click on the sidebar link to see just the blues and greens or just the neutrals, etc.

Finally...

On the old site the blog had become an announcement page. Here we’re retaking it as a real blog, with stories of studio shenanigans, articles about interesting fibery things, and other sources of inspiration that keep us creating. It is a place of sharing more in depth what’s on our minds, in our hearts, and in the world around us and we hope you’ll join the conversation and leave comments and let me know more of what you’d like to see here.

Finally, thanks to everyone who filled in our survey about the old site and helped us make this new one what you want it to be!

And - We Love You Groove! Thanks especially to DAN (you're our rockstar & superhero) and the whole team that made this makeover a 10!

Cross Browser & Prod Testing Signoffs,

Gryphon

Your skills have only flowed freely into beautiful textiles of which I do believe you are proud and should very well be!
I only think that when you know you have created a special, special “Ooo-Ahh” yarn, you should turn right around and triple the batch! Your variegated yarns are a reckoning force, I reckon I’ll always wait for more!

Erin – The announcements of upcoming yarn are in the Hot off the Stoves section on the Homepage. This will contain previews until the yarn goes live, at which point the yarn listings themselves will appear there (as well as in their own categories of base, colour, etc). The quantities function is something we’re working on.

Thank you!!
Lynn – that info got added a few hours after launch. We don’t expect you to have memorised it!

Dear Gryphon et Cie,

The new website looks FANTASTIC! Congratulations!!! It was worth the wait. I especially love the new feature with large icons showing the yarn in the cart. And the colours show up so much better against the white background.

Two things -

1 – where do we look now for the Friday announcement of what will be going up on Monday?

2 – one of my favorite things about the old site was that when you looked at the main page for each yarn lien (bugga, eidos …) it not only told you which colors were sold out, but told you how many skeins of each color were available (so you could see upfront if there was enough for your project before you got your heart set!) I’d suggest you add that if you can.

Love your yarn – but I kind of miss the curlicues!

I LOVE the new site! It’s so clean, and uncluttered. Interesting and refreshing. There was a time and place for celtic knots and all manner of curlyque’s too, but I think your change to this new vibe is awesome!

I like the new website except for one thing. I can’t find a description of the yarn, i.e., content, yardage, etc. I’m not one who can remember this info for all of the yarn names running around in my head.
